Build with me

Hi, I’m Sahar. Here’s what I do and what I’m looking for.

In short: A role on a skunkworks team building new AI products at a growing company larger than 40 people. If you know someone looking for an engineer-founder type who builds from zero, let me know.

Send them this page or my resume.

Here’s what I do: I make the implicit explicit. I see the problem, prototype a solution, rally a team behind it, we ship v1, and then I let them cook and work on the next problem. I believe in the virtuous interplay of writing, thinking, and building.

In the past, I’ve worked at Meta, Wikimedia, Blue Rose, and started a technical think tank on how to better align social platforms. Being a public intellectual was fun, but now I’m back to building mode.

These days, I’m building Lobster (an opinionated competitor to OpenClaw), writing takes on both data engineering and AI to ~200k subscribers, and helping friendly startups. Oh, and being a dad. Lately, I’ve emerged from a cave having learned the AI arts. The craft of engineering is changing in front of our eyes, and the era of gentleman scientist has returned!

I’m looking for roles at the intersection of research and product inside a larger firm. Ideally making AI tools (or frontier models themselves), but using them effectively works well too.

It’s more about impact and autonomy than what the job is called. But I find that role titles like applied AI engineer, engineering manager, or anything mentioning “special projects” correlate with what I’m looking for.

That said, people and culture matter just as much as product or mission. I am looking for a great boss I can learn from, and a healthy team that values being earnest, direct, and collaborative.

I live in New York, and love working in person. Ideally I’d be in the office 3-4 days a week. (Flexibly)

If you are working on a big hairy audacious goal and would enjoy someone who switches between technical and founder modelet’s talk.
